I had some conversations with some fashion designers last few days, it was about one question which is; what is fashion? is it art? or design? for many fashion designers this question is of no value, for others it’s, for me i consider myself one of the second group, what is the need after all? well, at least a fashion designer must know himself and his job starting with classifying his job and duty.
first of all fashion design is artful yes, but it’s not art
fashion design is about two major things in this world, creating ideas, fighting for idea, trying to make this world better place, just like any other art man who do painting or may be sculpturing, but fashion designer uses cloth instead, however fashion designer may use other materials, the above picture is from a exhibition i participated in as you see, this obviously is not fashion design about product making, this is art.
on the other hand most of fashion designers work will be about making products that make people live easier, and this is what makes fashion products .
<strong>Are there two kinds of fashion designers ?</strong>
no of course, fashion designer must do some art working, so he can free his mind, and the easiest art work a fashion designer can do is playing with some thing close to his career, then he transform this art work into products.
but fashion design levels itself can vary from just product designs, and this is usually in industry, and fashion design and glamor life at fashion houses.
