So what is the deference between fashion designer and fashion stylist? Actually many stylists are also fashion designers. And, some fashion designers are good stylists.
Fashion Designer
Designers attempt to design clothes which are functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. They must consider who is likely to wear a garment and the situations in which it will be worn. They have a wide range and combinations of materials to work with and a wide range of colors, patterns and styles to choose from, most clothing worn for everyday wear falls within a narrow range of conventional styles.
Fashion designers create clothing, and they may not necessarily be great stylists. They typically sketch the item or outfit, create the pattern, pick out the fabric and trimmings, sew the garment, and fit the garment to the individual. If the garment is mass-produced, there is someone who liaisons with the factory to make sure that each piece turns out as planned. The product of a designer is the actual garment.
A fashion designer make designs, that means she/he comes up with the idea of a new design, fabrics and often colors, he works on fabrics, patterns, cutting and sewing then he is definitely a fashion designer.
Fashion Stylist
A fashion stylist is someone who selects clothing and accessories for a fashion advertisement or editorial. There are many different types of potential clients for a stylist. For example, a celebrity may hire a stylist to dress them for a red carpet event or for their private life. The job description varies widely as some stylists work on exclusive projects like music videos, acting as a costume designer to create one-of-a-kind looks for the star.
a fashion stylist may have experience in high-level commercial jobs for print magazines, and may also work with a small number of private clients, in this case, he/she may help with streamlining client’s closet, finding client’s personal style, restructuring client’s wardrobe, educating client’s on the best colors and shapes for his/her body, but fashion stylist wont sew clothing himself, we are not arguing weather he can or not, but sewing isn’t his job.
A fashion stylist, develop styles. She/he have a good sense of “what’s in” color and styles and what looks good on a body and basically just help shop from what’s available, fashion designer designs cloth, a stylist picks out cloth that will make you look good
Because fashion design and styling is relative jobs, a lot of fashion designers do both style and design, making use of his own skills to building a good career in both jobs.
